I know I disabled automatic declaration in DOORS 8.2.
Upon moving to DOORS 9.3, I must have lost the setting.
The problem is I forgot what it was called and where to stick it.
I want to disable this behavior:
Immediate declaration
Immediate declaration is a DXL extension from C, which means that the first use of an undeclared variable is also a declaration. It must be used in a context where an unambiguous value is given to it, for example the left hand side of an assignment statement:
i = 2
print i
Once declared, the identifier must be used consistently.

Look for "Auto-declare" in the DXL manual.
Is, that feature is a disaster.

re: "Is that feature a disaster?" -- a resounding yes!
There are enough "features" to keep anyone on their toes without throwing no variable declaration in the mix.
They really buried that one. I was searching for "pragma" (foolish me.)
Thanks for remembering this and passing on the knowledge.
Have a nice weekend.

The setting for disabling auto-declare (i.e. XFLAGS_ &=~AutoDeclare_) is lost everytime DOORS is updated ... so after every patch I start to have some problems and then remember to add this to startup.dxl
It should be default, but IBM/Telelogic has been developing code which presumes to have auto-declare on and before they fix those we will probably have a working version of DOORS Next Generation.

Hey IBM install wizard guys:
If you are out there and reading this stuff, my vote would be:
1) Have AutoDeclare_ false by default.
2) If 1) would hurt someone's feelings (or cause something to break), at least copy the user's prior setting when doing a DOORS upgrade.
Benefit to implementing 2) -- A given user will experience similar behavior after upgrading.
... my two cents.

Search for "AutoDeclare.dxl" in the forums, to turn it off and on on-demand.
